Come join us for a skills workshop at Riverview Elementary in Durango on Saturday, January 21, 2012.
Participants will learn skills that will enhance their Destination ImagiNation experience. Elementary students will choose three morning classes. Middle school and high school students will choose two morning classes. There will be classes for new and returning team mangers. Teams are encouraged to split up and take most or all of the classes offered. In the afternoon, there will be instant challenge workshops and teams will break into their challenges with the regional challenge masters.
Information:
· The cost is $10 per team member and lunch is included
· There is no cost for team managers and lunch is included.
· Elementary students should arrive at 9:15 am
· Middle and high school students should arrive at 9am
· The workshop lasts until 3pm
TO REGISTER: go to http://www.di-swcolorado.org/. Download the registration form and follow the directions. Registrations will be processed in the order received. For safety reasons, workshops have limits of 10 or 15 students.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS:
Storytelling (for elementary, middle and high school students):Learn effective and engaging storytelling techniques, including character development, plot design, creating word pictures, and dramatic appeal.
Acting 101 (for elementary students): Look and sound great on stage. Learn how to move on stage, deliver lines, and work together as an acting team.
Acting 201 (for middle and high school students): increase your stage presence and effectiveness. These advanced acting techniques will make your presentations pop!
Hand Tools (for elementary students): Which tool should you use and how do you use them? Experiment with the safe use od hammers, hand drills, screw drivers and other hand tools.
Power Tools (for middle and high school students): Power tools increase the number of solutions
available to your team. Learn to use the appropriate tool safely.
Improv! (for elementary, middle and high school students): Spontaneity, teamwork, and improvisational techniques will help your team shine!
Props (for elementary students): How to build props for your set. Most props can be built from materials you already have.
Costumes (for elementary, middle and high school): Create costumes from anything that will dramatize your characters and story.
Sewing (formiddle and high school): Learn sewing techniques, including patterns, sewing machines, and other techniques.
Team Choice Elements (for elementary, middle and high school students): What is a team choice element and how is it incorporated into the skit? This is 20% of your main challenge score.
Electricity (for middle and high school): Understand electricity and how to use it to create unique solutions for your team. The Solar Stage, the scientific challenge, requires theatrical lighting.
